We also lay emphasis on their drawing, counting, writing skills and playing in order to develop their numeracy, creativity and sensory perceptions for life.
The Junior High School department is headed by a Deputy Head who is supported by Three stream Coordinators one for each Form, a Counselor and Teachers. The coordinators report directly to the Deputy Head on weekly basis on how their streams are faring, needs of the stream, issues about teachers in the stream and general coordination in the department..
Teachers in the department are given effective initial training that prepares them well for the classroom. They are also given high quality ongoing professional development and support throughout their careers to enable them to deliver excellent teaching and learning. There are high expectations of teaching staff and therefore staff and leaders work together to explore how they can improve every aspect of teaching and learning.
The introduction of the Chinese language in the school has brought so much excitement, and pupils have embraced the subject with much enthusiasm. Pupils can now chat and sing in Chinese. Some of the pupils who were doing well in the subject were given scholarship by the Chinese Ambassador. The language is being taught by teachers from the Chinese Confucius Centre at the University of Ghana.
This excellent performance is underpinned by high expectations allied to traditional values. The department offers a broad and balanced curriculum that contributes to the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of pupils. It is essential to prepare pupils for life in UBS. We provide a rich variety of knowledge and experience in school no matter what skill and abilities, regardless of their personal circumstances. The department is a close knit community of approximately 520 students, 32 Teachers, 9 national service personnel, 5 cleaners and we pride ourselves on the high level of commitment. This is a friendly, caring and happy department where students are encouraged to enjoy all aspects of their school work and to develop confidence in their abilities.
